Do:
1. Inform the host of dietary restrictions before the dinner
2. Arrive to the dinner at least 10 minutes early
3. Follow dress attire as specified on invite (i.e. black tie or business casual)
4. Greet everyone and introduce yourself as you arrive at the dinner
5. Follow the host’s lead
6. Always say please and thank you to wait staff
7. Pass plates by setting on the table. Do not pass hand to hand.
8. Place your napkin on your lap
9. Know which silverware to use. Generally, you start with the silverware on the end, and move inwards toward your plate. Review this infographic shared by Wedding and Party Network for a friendly reminder of what silverware to use for each dish.
10. Always send a thank you note after the dinner
Don’t:
1. Forget to RSVP
2. Begin eating before everyone else gets their meal
3. Cut more than two bites at a time (Don’t cut all your food up at once. Cut a slice, eat it, then cut another slice and so on).
4. Forget to monitor your alcohol consumption
5. Pass the salt and pepper separately
6. Leave your phone on loud
7. Say you are using the restroom. Do say, “Excuse me,” or, “I’ll be right back.”
8. Reach for dishes. Do ask for others to pass the dish to you.
9. Push plates away once you are finished with meal
10. Place your napkin on your plate or chair when done. Do set your napkin on the table.
